Everything That You Need To Know Before Grilling
Grilling your food over charcoal, as our hunter-gatherer forefathers might have done, is one of the highest honors a raw ingredient can receive. Only the right technique and method, however, would make them taste different.
A grill kit and related appliances can be overwhelming at times. There may be some confusion regarding temperature settings, fuel ignition method, and cooking time. A minor error can cause your food to overcook or undercook. Read on to learn the most useful grilling secrets and tips that will significantly improve your grill party experience.
COOKING FLAME
Cooking the food on a strong flame does not prepare flavorful food. It is important to set the heat and smoke according to the recipe to ace the flavor. A strong flame burns the outer layer and gives the veggies or steak an acrid flavor. Let the glowing coals settle down to produce an even heating temperature. You can always squelch the flare-up simply by pouring some oil through a spray bottle.
GRILLING TOOLS
If you use tongs to flip the chicken on the grill, do not use the same tongs to move the already cooked chicken. It can contaminate the cooked chicken with the bacteria of raw chicken. The grilling tools should be kept separate from the serving tools. Otherwise, you can wash the tong after grilling and then use it for serving if you don’t have two sets of tongs.
GLOWING THE CHARCOAL
The initial ignition takes some time to turn the coals red. You can use a chimney starter to glow the coals initially. This is specifically required when you are using a kettle grill.
CLEAN THE GRILL KIT AFTER EVERY USE
All accessories in the grill kit must be cleaned after use to avoid oil buildup. Likewise, the grates must be kept clean to prevent the leftover residue from getting stuck to the grates. It is harder to clean the leftovers later on and sometimes damages the metal.
COOKWARE
Ensure all the grill kit’s cookware is made of cast iron or stainless steel. These two materials produce the best grilling results and can be used on any surface without risk. Cast iron can even be used directly on the flame of hot coals.
GILLING GLOVES
Fabric gloves are unsuitable for grilling because they can easily catch fire and mitten-shaped fabric gloves should not be used for grilling. Instead, search for the grilling gloves or welder gloves that also cover your forearm. You can properly use your fingers through welder gloves and perform grilling functions easily.
GRILLING PRO-TIPS
- Every food takes a different time and temperature to cook perfectly on a grill. Know your cooking temperatures to enjoy every kind of grilled food. There are also standard temperatures for each kind of category. If the cooked temperature of chicken, beef, or fish is around 165 degrees Fahrenheit, then it’s well-done. If you want rare tuna, the cooking temperature is 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Do the marinade two days before you plan to do the grilling or at least overnight to produce flavourful barbeque.
- You can put fresh herbs directly on the grates to accentuate the aroma of the food. Rosemary, oregano, or thyme can be soaked in water before grilling, so they smolder better without getting burnt.
