Roll Up Your Salad Greens to Keep Them Dry and Crisp
Salad dressing is not much good when tossed with a bowl full of wet greens. Here's a simple way to keep your greens dry, crisp, and fresh for up to a week.
Here’s a solution: wash the greens, separate them into leaves, lay them on a large, clean kitchen towel, and roll them up like a jelly roll. Stored in the refrigerator, the towel will absorb the water and then slowly feed it back to the leaves, keeping them fresh for a week. The result is crisp, clean, dry salad greens that won’t get rust spots and or dilute the salad dressing.
Another way to keep condensation off of lettuce, line a storage container with paper towels. Add cleaned lettuce leaves and top with another paper towel layer. The paper absorbs excess moisture. This works with fruits and other vegetables too.
