Bone-in hams are definitely superior to boneless hams in terms of flavor, but carving one can be daunting if you've never done it before. Don't worry though. It's really very easy. Take a look at the cut face of the ham. You'll notice three distinct muscle sections surrounding the bone. The idea is to carve away each section from the bone and then slice them into more manageable sized pieces. Using a sharp thin bladed carving knife. Cut along the fat line that separates each section, insert the knife deep into the ham. You may hit bone, but just work the knife around it. To cut the meat from the joint, removed a section of ham than simply carve it into slices. Repeat the process on the other sections of ham and be sure to save the bone to use in soup.
Now that you have this perfectly cooked ham, here's how to dig in and enjoy!
